InfoComm 2012 Comes to Vegas

InfoComm International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the audiovisual industry. If you’ve never been, you are missing out on one of the most important shows in the commercial A/V world. It is tradeshow regularly attracts over 34,000 attendees, and this year’s show is in Las Vegas starting June 9th (the exhibitor tradeshow floor is open June 13 to 15). This year, 925 exhibitors will be showing the latest audio, video, display, lighting and digital signage. There will be special areas of the show floor where vendors are grouped. These include digital signage, audio, collaborative conferencing (like videoconferencing and unified communications), lighting and staging, a touch screen design gallery and sustainable technologies.

InfoComm is the place to meet nearly every projector vendor out there (for example) and to see the latest products, it is a place to take courses towards becoming a Certified Technology Specialist in AV installation or design and it is a place to meet people with similar interests. It is also the place to attend some of the 300+ educational sessions led by expert presenters.

The sessions are grouped into tracks, so you can follow learning areas specific to your needs. The tracks include one for first timers (introductory level classes), AV system technology and design, business and management, innovation, networked AV systems, staging and live events, sustainable smart buildings and one for technology managers. You can choose from among these sessions or follow along one group.
In addition, collaborative conferencing and unified communications non-profit IMCCA will be offering a day of sessions on Wednesday about these communications technologies.

There will also be special tech tours that you can attend. You can see the recording studio at the Palms Casino Resort, the Las Vegas Fashion Show (described as a “high-end, high-tech shopping experience”) and the LINQ360 hospitality showcase. One the more magical side of things, you can tour backstage at the Cirque du Soleil “KA” or “The Beatles LOVE” shows. The Broadway (now Vegas) favorite show the Phantom is also opening its backstage as is the Mob Museum.

At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, the show will provide a first timer’s orientation and a tour of the show floor on Wednesday. The opening keynote speaker is Tony Ricotta, company manager for Cirque du Soleil. He will be speaking Tuesday evening. Later that night is the InfoComm opening reception.
Networking is a key plus to any tradeshow and in addition to the welcoming reception the show is offering a rental staging forum, awards and reception. Wednesday the show is offering an international reception. Thursday at noon there is a “Woman in AV” luncheon. And on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon there are and there are “beer and pretzels” get-togethers.
